At Ibcos, we’re proud to support businesses that push the boundaries of operational efficiency and customer experience. We recently spoke with Edward Baker, Managing Director at Global Machinery Solutions, to hear how his team has embraced digital tools across sectors like construction, forestry, and recycling. We discussed how the transition from manual processes to modern, data-driven workflows has transformed their business.
Edward’s journey at Global Machinery Solutions began over a decade ago with a three-month university placement. Since then, he’s worked his way through the service division, managed multiple departments, and now leads the business at the highest level.
“When I started, we were still using manual job cards. Engineers were remote, and we could go weeks without write-ups – which meant we couldn’t invoice quickly,” Edward pointed out.
From Paper to Proactive
Like many forward-thinking businesses, Global Machinery Solutions recognised early on that modernising operations was essential – especially as customer expectations evolved. With engineers covering remote areas and customers demanding faster invoicing, digitising their workflow became a priority.
“We moved fast. Whatever Ibcos released, we were usually quick to adopt it – from job scheduling to planned maintenance, DocStore, Events Module, and now the newer web Gold platform.”
The transition hasn’t just been about convenience. For Global Machinery Solutions, embracing digital tools has helped meet rising compliance demands in sectors like construction and waste management. Customers now expect more than just an invoice – they want job cards, supporting photographs, and full traceability.
“Compliance is no longer optional. For many of our customers, if we don’t provide detailed digital records, we don’t get paid.”
Serving a Diverse Customer Base
Global Machinery Solutions operates across multiple industries – from construction and recycling to forestry and agriculture – and Edward noted that each sector brings different challenges.
“You generally deal with one person for everything in forestry. In construction, it can be up to five people across purchasing, maintenance, and invoicing, so streamlining is critical.”
Telematics, Safety & The Future
When it comes to innovation, Global Machinery Solutions is all in. Edward highlighted the importance of telematics – not just for asset tracking, but for real-time fault diagnostics, geofencing, and even safety compliance.
“Telematics allow us to troubleshoot without sending engineers out, saving time and money. It’s also a key selling point for our construction division.”
Safety is another growing priority. Global Machinery Solutions’ equipment includes machines with built-in features like motion limitation, human recognition, and geo-restricted zones – helping improve onsite safety and reduce risk.
Edward also pointed to emerging technologies like hydrogen and electric-powered machinery and automated excavation systems, which are shaping the future of the industry.
A Collaborative Partnership
Throughout their digital journey, Global Machinery Solutions has worked closely with the Ibcos team – providing feedback, testing new features, and helping shape the direction of the platform.
“We’ve always had a strong relationship with Ibcos. We’ve shown them what we need, what other technologies offer, and they’ve responded. The move to online Gold is a huge improvement – faster, easier, and far more modern.”
Edward’s only callout? More flexibility. As industry needs become more complex, the ability to customise platforms will become increasingly important.
Looking Ahead
After 10 years with Global Machinery Solutions, Edward’s focus remains clear: to lead with integrity, stay ahead of the curve, and provide the best possible service for their customers.
“We want to be proud of what we offer. That means growing sustainably, delivering real solutions, and being reliable. That’s what sets us apart.”
